1. Introduction
Plot Twist LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Plotwist mobile application (“App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices regarding your data. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
a) Information You Provide Directly: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and optionally a profile photo and social media links (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook). We also collect the content of discussion posts, comments, book nominations, and votes you submit through the App.
b) Information Collected Automatically: When you use the App, we automatically collect device information (device type, operating system version), app usage data (screens viewed, features used, session duration), reading participation history, voting history, and streak data. This data is collected via PostHog analytics in anonymized or pseudonymized form.
c) Authentication Data: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your Apple-provided and Google-provided email address (which may be a private relay address) and a unique user identifier. We never receive or store your Apple ID or Google passwords. If you sign in with email and password, your password is securely hashed and stored by our authentication provider (Supabase).
d) Advertising Data: For free (non-Pro) users, Google AdMob may collect device advertising identifiers and usage data to serve ads. We do not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework and do not track users across other apps or websites. AdMob’s data practices are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
e) Information We Do Not Collect: We do not collect precise location data, contacts, health data, financial information (payment processing is handled entirely by Apple), or any data from other apps on your device.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Provide, operate, and maintain the App and your account
Display your profile, posts, and activity to other community members
Process and manage your Pro subscription (via Apple and RevenueCat)
Send push notifications with your consent (book drops, vote reminders, discussion replies)
Track your reading streaks, participation stats, and voting history
Serve advertisements to free users via Google AdMob
Analyze anonymized usage patterns to improve the App and user experience (via PostHog)
Moderate user-generated content and enforce our community guidelines
Track referral attribution for the Curator program
Respond to your support requests and communicate about service updates
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share information with the following service providers who assist in operating the App:
Supabase — database hosting, user authentication, and real-time data sync
Google AdMob — ad serving for free users (subject to Google’s Privacy Policy)
RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation
PostHog — anonymized product analytics
Apple — App Store subscription billing and processing
Expo / React Native — push notification delivery
We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Discussion posts and community contributions remain visible as part of the community archive even after you leave a book cycle. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information (email, display name, profile photo, social links) within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data and aggregated statistics may be retained indefinitely. Posts you made in discussions will be attributed to a deleted user placeholder.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
Opt out of push notifications at any time via your device’s notification settings
Opt out of personalized advertising via your device’s privacy settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking)
Withdraw consent for optional data collection at any time

7. Children’s Privacy
Plotwist is rated 17+ and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 17. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from someone under 17, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe someone under 17 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected].
8. Data Security
We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication via Supabase, row-level security policies on our database, and secure password hashing. However, no method of electronic transmission or data storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
The right to request deletion of your personal information
The right to opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell your personal information
The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

10. International Users
Plotwist is operated from the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
11. Apple App Store Privacy Details
In accordance with Apple’s App Privacy requirements, here is a summary of our data practices:
Data Used to Track You: None. We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Data Linked to You: Email address, display name, user ID, purchase history (subscription status), and usage data.
Data Not Linked to You: Anonymized analytics data, crash logs, and diagnostic data.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email. The effective date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last updated. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, accessing, or using the Plotwist mobile application (“App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). The App is operated by Plot Twist LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), located at 7700 Windrose Avenue, Plano, Texas 75024. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
Plotwist is a biweekly book club community app. We provide a platform for book discovery, community discussion, and voting on upcoming book selections. We do not sell books or provide in-app reading. Book purchases are made through third-party retailers via affiliate links. The App is the community layer — not a bookstore or e-reader.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 17 years old to create an account and use Plotwist. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you are at least 17 years of age. If we learn that a user is under 17, we will terminate their account.
4. User Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it up to date. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that have been inactive for an extended period.
5. User Content
You retain ownership of content you post on Plotwist (discussion posts, comments, book nominations, profile information). By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the App and for promotional purposes. You agree not to post content that:
Is unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, or obscene
Infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
Contains spam, unsolicited advertising, or commercial solicitations
Impersonates another person or entity
Contains malware, viruses, or other harmful code
Includes major plot spoilers outside of designated spoiler tags
We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines at our sole discretion and without prior notice.
6. Auto-Renewable Subscriptions
Plotwist offers an optional paid subscription (“Pro”) with the following terms:
Monthly Plan: $4.99 per month
Annual Plan: $49.99 per year
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period
Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same rate
You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID Account Settings
No refunds will be provided for any unused portion of a subscription period; refund requests must be directed to Apple
Pro features include: ad-free experience, advanced community features, 3x voting power (3 votes per round instead of 1).
Any free trial period, if offered, will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless canceled at least 24 hours before the trial expires.
7. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Services
The App contains affiliate links to third-party book retailers including Amazon, Bookshop.org, Audible, and Apple Books. We may earn a commission on purchases made through these links at no additional cost to you. We are not responsible for the products, services, pricing, or policies of third-party retailers. Your purchases from these retailers are governed by their respective terms and conditions. Plotwist has no affiliation with or endorsement from any book publisher or retailer unless explicitly stated.
8. Advertising
Free users may see advertisements served by Google AdMob, including banner ads, native ads within discussion feeds, and occasional interstitial ads. Pro subscribers enjoy an ad-free experience. Ad content is provided by third-party ad networks, and we do not endorse the products or services advertised. We do not use device tracking (IDFA) or participate in cross-app tracking.
9. Intellectual Property
The Plotwist name, logo, design, and all original content and software created by us are the property of Plot Twist LLC. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of our intellectual property without prior written permission. Book covers, titles, and metadata displayed in the App are sourced from public APIs and used for purposes of commentary, discussion, and identification under fair use.
10. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
Use the App for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law
Create multiple accounts to manipulate votes or circumvent restrictions
Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the App or its data
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other user accounts
Interfere with or disrupt the App or the servers and networks that host it
Use the App to harass, bully, or intimidate other users
11. Disclaimers
The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We are not responsible for user-generated content, the accuracy of book information provided via third-party APIs, or the availability of third-party retailer links.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Plot Twist LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages resulting from user-generated content. Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty dollars ($50), whichever is greater.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Plot Twist LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the App at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings or by contacting us at [email protected]. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections 5, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 16 survive termination.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email to the address associated with your account. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the App.
16. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Collin County, Texas. You consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
